Online marketing is exciting but tricky. People who you have no chance of seeing or talking to are the prospects whose hearts you have to win to earn your bread. And that is a tall order for many small website owners.
Among the myriad weapons in the armory of an online marketer, online video quiz surely is more potent than the others. If you agree to this you may have noticed that the potential of video quiz has however remained largely unattended. And herein lays an opportunity..!
Let us study some likely scenarios.
The ‘Net’ behavior
People coming to any site usually represent a mixed bag. In a well-researched article I read sometime back, a couple of stats give an interesting insight into a searcher’s mind. I mention them verbatim:
- 24.53% of people want to get to a specific website they already have in mind. This is a navigational query.
- 68.41% of people want to find a good site on a particular topic. They don’t have a specific site in mind. This is an informational query.
The same article also informs the following:
I] Why people conduct their searches?
- 8.16% of people shopping for something to buy on the internet
- 5.46% people shopping to buy an item, but not on the Internet
- 22.55% people wanting to download a file (i.e. image, music, software, etc)
- 57.19% none of these reasons
II] What people look for?
- 14.83% were looking for a collection of links to other sites regarding a particular topic
- 76.62% the best site regarding this topic
These figures are important pointers that indicate the visitors’ behavior in any website. Since the visitors come from many countries in the world it will not be wrong to argue that even if their actions in a site may be grossly converging, they may not yet necessarily result from the same decisions or compulsions.
In other words, statistics are the dry testimonies of visitors’ actions. To actually know their mind there has to be an improved technique, which is something that online video quiz can achieve.
Small business conundrum
Ask any competent web marketer as to what he thinks are the 2 most important necessities for a website to succeed. Chance is he will list them as 1) clear calls to action, and 2) testing/retesting what works best through web analytic.
If you think about them you’ll find that both have to work in tandem, and are rather complementary to each other. If you make a single change to the call to action and let it be for some time, the behavior of the visitors will inform you whether the change is benefiting or not.
This is a sound theory, and there is no doubt about it. The point though remains that you must be having a good number of visitors to your site; otherwise a meaningful analysis will remain elusive.
Many small business websites do not get the amount of traffic needed to make conclusive analysis, and in any case their time is mostly consumed by looking after their businesses rather than their websites.
The need for an online video quiz or survey can be seen from this perspective.
Need for online video quiz
The need for online web video is established firmly long time back. In my experience many small website owners shy away from having web video because they feel they are not up to it. Hiring a professional to make video comes at a cost that acts as a barrier even as making a web video on their own is clearly not the option.
An online quiz video may be a great solution in such cases. Why?
If planned properly, a quiz video may entice even a few visitors to a small business website to answer the queries. That is really helpful because you get to know the mind of those visitors which you’d otherwise miss if the video is not there.
Smart marketers may think of linking the quiz video with some sort of free gift (an ebook for example) to get to know what visitors feel when they come to the websites.
Video quiz for educational need
If you’re running an online education course, then a video quiz is a must for evaluation. Having several sets of video quiz on the same topic is a clever way to evaluate the performance of the course attendees at different points in time.
Given below is an example of video quiz made partially in PowerPoint 2010. 3 types of questions are shown in the video – multiple choice, fill in the blank and short answer. The multiple choice can also be an either/or question, e.g. true/false, yes/no, etc.
Play the video and try answering the questions. For each question that you answer you’ll know immediately if you’re right or wrong.

Based on everything I see I am more and more astonished about online marketing based on understanding how the the next generation communicate with their peers through their technology. My 12 year old nephew just sent me a web system they had created to organize teenage topics for their . They wanted to know how one could establish advertising on the system to generate income. I am so very happy.
