For long I was hardly the person to use a video to mp3 online converter, but then typical situations demand typical solutions. In some instances the demand is urgent. So, you have less time to ponder, and whatever you already know must be put to action without delay.

I faced this situation sometime back when a client wanted me to edit his video to include some texts and graphics that will fade in and out inside the video as it plays. Now I normally take up this type of works only for raw video footage where little or no editing has been done. This I insist on since on more occasions than one I’ve found the edited videos have already compromised on the quality.

What usually happens is this. People shoot several takes with the video camera to develop a story. The takes may be at different angles, at different times of the day or night, at different stages of a live happening such as a concert or a game, and so on. Lest you feel that only pros do this, let me tell you that even amateur video makers go for several shots if situation permits so that they can work on the best of the lot.

After the shots are checked and found ‘technically’ ok, in comes the job of assembling them, or rather assembling the best portions among all the takes. The job of editing is tedious. It’s not only to decide which pieces to select, but also which ones to come after which, whether transitions needed from one piece to another, and myriads more, capping finally with titles, credits, and yes, the sound to go along in perfect tandem with the video.

Any which way you look at it, video editing is a tough job, though admittedly the online videos that are now proliferating on YouTube like mushrooms are almost bereft of any editing, primarily because they don’t need them.

I’ve no hesitation to say that most of my tutorial videos you see on this site belong to the mushroom category, and I’m really happy that my visitors like them that way as they find value in them.

Video To MP3

Coming back to the subject on hand, my client’s video was in FLV format. When I pressed for the raw video format, he justified the FLV video by saying that after numerous pieces of the video shots were joined there was simply no way they could possibly make the end video in say AVI or WMV formats.

So there it was…an FLV video is to be edited in such a way that the background music – a lovely tune in this case – is not disturbed at all. There will be no increase in length to the video…obviously so, otherwise the synchronous playing of the video and the background music will completely go haywire.

I figured that I will need to first convert the video from FLV flash to an agreeable format that can be worked on in a video editor. After putting in the texts and graphics on the video timeline, and ensuring that the audio is synchronizing perfectly, the video can then again be reconverted back to FLV format.

Soon though my client asked for a little variation, which is an addition of a 5 second title in the beginning. Okay, I said, but then he asked something more, and that changed the whole game.

He now wanted the background music to start at approximately 3 seconds from the start when in fact the title is still playing and the actual video is still 2 seconds away. I pointed out this, but he wanted the change anyway, wanting me to shave off 2 seconds of the video at the end if necessary.

If you have followed me till now, you’ll realize that now it became necessary to separate the video and the audio from the flash FLV, and after all editing is over, rejoin both to make the final video.

This means that I needed a video to mp3 converter, rather an FLV to mp3 converter to wrench out the audio portion before I proceed with the video editing work.

An Online Video To MP3 Converter?

As luck would have it I have hardly had the need to use a video to mp3 converter, and now I cannot do without one. What’s more, I do not have the liberty of using as much time I’d like to. A solution must be found without delay, the urgency setting me on the hunt on the World Wide Web (or ‘wild’ wide web as it seemed to me at that time).

Contrary to my anticipation, the hunting was rather smooth. I googled ‘video to mp3‘, but finding the results unsatisfactory, shifted to ‘flv to mp3‘. The top search result appealed to me (see image below), more so as the page’s meta description, despite Google’s lack of interest, told me exactly what I wanted to find.

2conv.Com, a.k.a flv2mp3.com turned out to be an excellent tool for my requirement. You only need to give the URL (for online location) of the FLV file or browse its location in your hard disk to upload in the box on the main page (refer image below), agree to the terms of service and proceed ahead.

The tool first downloads the FLV file on to its site for the purpose of conversion. In the next step you can select the audio frequency and the quality, name the output file and click ‘Next’ to set the tool in action. After the conversion is over, it automatically offers you to save the mp3 file on to your computer.

I tested the tool on quite a few FLV files to separate the audio from them, and I found the entire process didn’t take much time, though apparently the ‘upload’ process is more time-consuming. If you’re using it, you may be pleasantly surprised that the converted MP3 files are not heavy to use.

I’ve made the tutorial video below that explains the working of the FLV to MP3 online converter. If you’ve used it or any other online tool, share your experience in the comment box below.
