Connecting Socially With Su.pr

Comments §

Su.pr is StumbleUpon’s URL shortening facility plus a lot more. The idea is to economize on the number of characters in a URL. But how is this useful?

People who use social media sites like Twitter and Facebook would know that a long URL in a message would cut down the length of the message itself.

For example, Twitter permits 140 characters in a ‘tweet’, and if you are going to send a longish missive including a URL that extends for more than 40 characters, you have to shorten the message itself which you may not like.

The problem is solved by TinyURL, Bit.ly, and others. They shorten the URL and among all Bit.ly is popular among the ‘tweeters’.

StumbleUpon has gone a step ahead with Su.pr – spelled ‘super’ by many – where you can not only shorten the URL you use in a message, you can also send it to your Twitter and Facebook accounts at the same time in addition to ‘stumbling upon’.

WebProNews informs further, the free syndication tool also tells publishers the best time to post their content and lets them see real-time analytics on clicks, tweets, and traffic associated with posts.

In the WebProNews video below on the topic, social media expert Brent Csutoras sees a good future for Su.pr and StumbleUpon as a whole. In his wordsif you want to stay on top of the continued changes with Su.pr, I suggest bookmarking and checking out the Su.pr UserVoice page here: http://stumbleupon.uservoice.com/pages/17634-general.

Worth doing so, as I too found out recently.
